Five Types of Stage Backdrop Fabric

Stage curtain or backdrops are designed to keep back the things from the audience. There are always many performances in a program or function. Each performance is a surprise to the audience. No one knows what they are going to witness next. Therefore, curtains have excellent use, and they come in different fabrics as per the show.

For instance, dramatic performances use backdrops or tarps with the best drama scene printed on them while conferences or corporate shows have taglines of sponsors or logos printed.

However, stage backdrop fabric is selected as per the customer’s choice, and it comes in five major types that people often use. Have a look-

Tarps or Fabrics have different uses in theatre or stage shows. Learn here about their types-

  • Canvas: This material is the choice of many and can be efficiently printed. As canvas can be used between the performance, its demand remains at the top to frame the stage show well. Say a team is performing a play on types of pollution. Exhibiting different types of pollution and their examples on canvas tarps in between the show will make the audience understand the show concept and can love the creativity level.
  • Chroma Key: It is useful for creating green screens. YouTubers widely use it, which they later edit the background through professional tools. Editing can be done only through a chroma key, not any common cloth. Moreover, it is a flame-resistant material that can help in emergencies.
  • Commando Cloth: Most of you might be aware of it as this cloth is easy to wash and can absorb light. It has the purpose of a stage curtain, especially in the initial and final stages of the performance. The fabric is accessible for hiding the participants so that they can prepare for their upcoming scenes.
  • Scrim: It hides things from the audience unless light doesn’t pass through it.
  • Burlap: This cloth is a good absorber of sound and is inexpensive. It helps avoid the sound from a specific area, like background noise coming during any performance.

People should consider the need for a stage backdrop fabric to decide the type they need. Further, muslin can be the best option, but only as a prop in a play, not as a stage curtain.
